We build houses from the bottom up.  We start with a vacant lot, dig the hole, lay the foundation, frame the house, roof it, and prepare the inside for occupancy.  All of the labor is volunteer, except for the plumbing and electrical work, which must be done by licensed professionals.  In those cases we pay for service, but appreciate donated professional services, whenever possible.

Construction is a little like a game of sandlot baseball. We take all comers, put them on a team and, if necessary, teach them how to play that position. People are often amazed at how well they can do what they thought they could not do. There is a job for everyone at Habitat. Lack of experience or skill is not a limiting factor. If you would like to serve others, come to the work site and sign in. Don’t wait for someone to call. Just show up. You must be 16 years old to be on the site. We apologize to the younger folks, but our insurance will not cover you.

Our standard weekly work schedule is Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 9:00 am until 1:00 pm.  On Saturdays we work from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm and on Saturdays lunch is provided by our hospitality team. When you come to work, wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather.  A cool day becomes a cold day after you have stood in the wind for a few hours.  If you want more information about work call, please call 766-4166 to talk to our construction foreman.  We work rain or shine, with a few exceptions for the extremes.
